ALDEN – Mesa Governor Joshua Adamson and Parker Sydd faced off on Saturday, August 29, 2026, for the first of two debates during the 2026 gubernatorial election and both men traded personal attacks and jabs at one another while they focused on performing strongly during the debate.

During the debate, both men were asked how they could significantly reduce the hate against the LGBTQ community, more specifically what they would do to ensure that the transgender community was safeguarded. In his response Parker Sydd first answered calling for the reversal of dozens of executive orders and appeals to several state laws banning transgender books in schools.

“I think the very first thing we can do on day one is restore the teaching of transgender ideology in our schools which Governor Adamson had supported since becoming Governor back in 2023, and continued to slash, even though he said he would not harm members of the community following former Governor Kirk Paul’s resignation,” said Parker Sydd, the Nationalist nominee for Governor. “We will also reverse dozens of anti-LGBTQ and anti-transgender executive orders that he signed from 2023 through the day we are sworn in. I will push the state legislature to ensure that laws governing the community are reversed allowing them to freely express themselves with no government intervention.”

Governor Adamson responded by telling voters and viewers that the LGTBQ community hasn’t been targeted by his administration with light restrictions on the transgender ideology being pushed in primary education institutions and colleges. He said that he continues to support a complete ban on LGBTQ materials in schools while saying that “no one is taking rights of transgender individuals,” despite evidence and executive orders showing that he is doing the opposite of what he claims.

“I will never surrender the rights and protections of our state’s children from the ideology that has plagued the state for too long,” said Governor Adamson in response. “We have worked on anti-Woke laws and have pushed for safer schools and restrictions on LGBTQ-related materials being shown in school. We have imposed light restrictions on what can be shown in schools but not full bans on the community have been pushed by me, especially the claims being made by Nationalists.”

The two men also debated the State’s higher-than-average inflation, and both men vowed to continue working to lower the inflation rates statewide as a key point for both candidates. Since assuming office in 2023, inflation rose 14.6% higher than any other state in the country, with gas prices slightly coming down before skyrocketing in late 2025.

“Inflation has been Governor Adamson’s weakest point,” explained Sydd. “He has said that your lives would get easier with his three-point plan to reduce inflation when it has done the complete opposite. Since taking office back in 2023, inflation has risen to 14%, the highest in the Nation and he continues to lead our state’s budget. On day one I will direct a complete audit of the state’s spending and put a hold on money that is going to any organizations, projects or other financial support that is wasteful. It will be easier-said-than-done, but I will work daily to get inflation below 6%.”

Governor Adamson responded to Parker Sydd by diverting attention away from the inflation numbers and asking why inflation was so bad under the control of the House and Senate when Nationalists controlled it, and citing spending needs of the state to improve infrastructure for the spending increase.

“Unfortunately, in Mesa, weather and heavy use of infrastructure has contributed to the sharp increase in state spending, because as Mesians know we had failing infrastructure due to age and outdated technology and that is the state’s priority to keep transportation networks around the state up and running,” responded Adamson. “Fixing breaking or old infrastructure is not cheap and he knows that. Airports and other large projects cost money and Alden International Airport will cost about 4.2 billion dollars which they voted to approve. Let’s quit the finger pointing game when the blame belongs to Nationalists.”

The final question of the night caused major heat as questions related to immigration unleashed a flurry of insults being hurled at Adamson and Sydd respectively. They were asked if they would continue to support immigration operations of the Laylin Administration within the state.

“I think these operations are great for our state,” exclaimed Adamson. “For far too long President’s and Nationalist leaders of our nation have allowed floods of illegals, drug traffickers, rapists and murderers into our country and the President had and continues to make it clear that he will change the lackluster deportation efforts of the past 100+ years and remove these criminals. I 100% support the continued partnership between our state and the federal government. I won’t restrict the immigration officials from operating in our state one because it is a great thing for our state, and the second is I am not the federal government and it is illegal to try to stop immigration officials from removing illegals from our country, which Nationalists seem to neglect in understanding. Nationalists hate this country and our state allowing these types of individuals to come into our country willfully. They are the stupidest people alive”

Sydd responded saying that he would support the removal of agents from the State and block the Laylin administration from conducting such operations calling them racist, targeted attacks. He said that did not support them then and certainly will not support them now.

“I would not support the operations because they are racist and targeted and I will never stand by those types of operations ordered by a racist, bigoted and hateful President,” said Sydd. “On day one I will immediately end the State’s partnership between the federal government and our state’s law enforcement. They are not there to do the federal government’s job and it is clear that the Governor will roll over for President Laylin and we need leadership with a backbone.”

The debate ended around 11:00 PM with both candidates vowing to stick to their party lines and vote in step with their party’s values and President Laylin even weighed in praising Governor Adamson’s performance.

“I think Governor Adamson’s performance tonight was incredible, and he will continue to serve the great people for years to come as he is a strong, capable leader and has the full support of his party,” said President Laylin. “Adamson has been a true advocate, ally and spokesperson to our anti-woke movement. I look forward to his swift defeat of the woke, liberal and anti-Jesstopian Parker Sydd.”
