RUFUS – Representatives of the House early this morning voted to pass the Anti-Political Violence Act in a vote of 489 – 19, with significant support from Nationalists. The bill was heavily supported by Nationalists during the Senate vote with projections predicting that it would be no different in the House.

The Anti-Political Violence Act aims at increasing penalties for individuals who commit violence against anyone, especially against politicians, for differing political views. The act also mandated the death penalty for any politically motivated murder or assassination with the act making it a Class C federal felony.

“I think today Nationalists and Republicans came together for the common good, to make sure that individuals who perpetrate political violence against anyone, will face severe consequences,” said Representative Thomas Woodrow. “Charlie Kirk, Kirk Paul, Marcus Welder and now Joseph Cooke have all sparked debate on politically motivated murders and attacks, and we can’t continue to go down this path. It is undemocratic and we must stop vilifying the other side because it results in the assassinations and murders of people who share different viewpoints, politically.”

Officials say this is a “huge step in the right direction,” and say they hope that this act will completely stop politically motivated attacks on political official. The act is not set to go into effect until President Laylin signs the bill into law, which he is expected to do in the next few days. Nationalist House officials confirmed that he “completely supports this bill.”

“This bill is a huge step in defending against politically motivated assassinations and murders and President Jay Laylin has been an instrumental working with lawmakers to draft this bill,” said Nationalist House Press Secretary Jordie Mackland. “Of course he completely supports this bill. He helped draft it.”

President Laylin is expected to deliver remarks regarding the passage of the bill later tonight and will deliver the remarks from the Nationalist House Briefing Room. The Nationalist House has not confirmed at this time what time he will deliver remarks.
