RUFUS – The Mesa State Nominating Committee is scheduled to convene on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, to nominate the nominees for governor during the 2026 gubernatorial election. Both parties will vote on and select their nominees.

Joshua Adamson is the Republican party’s likely candidate as he successfully won a full term as Mesa governor in 2024, and remains a key player in Republican politics in the state. More than 82% of Republicans asked said that they would vote to reelect Joshua Adamson. The party has yet to say who they are considering for the job but experts say incumbents tend to keep that support.

Nationalists are still unsure but as of the latest polling, Parker Sydd remains the strongest contender against Governor Joshua Adamson. Sydd’s popularity comes strategically from his openness to interviews across Mesa, ability to connect with the Nationalist base, and his ability to deliver insight to the Mesian people on health care, education and social justice.

“I believe Governor Adamson will receive the Republican party’s nomination, as he has incumbent’s advantage,” said Rodger Stone, a political analyst for the Mesa Inquirer. “Parker Sydd is going to have to prove himself to be worthy of the nomination as he has no previous political experience and is in a crowded space for Nationalist candidates who have more experience.”

The committees will officially announce their nominees when a nominee is selected by each party. Nominations are only considered finalized when the Committee’s respective party President’s make their official announcement. It is expected that it will take several days to officially nominate each candidate, but candidates are likely to be selected by the end of this week.
