RUFUS – Former Representative Nolan Burmaster has been sworn in as the 2nd Senator From New Shire, succeeding former Senator Larry Cofelt. During his swearing in, Vice President Cole Bindle issued his oath of office, before he delivered remarks to the Senate as a freshly sworn member.

Burmaster was selected by New Shire Governor David Rivera to succeed the late Larry Cofelt, citing Burmaster’s “extensive Congressional career and record in defending the rights of the millions of people he represented in the House.” Burmaster excepted the role, and will face a permanent vote in 2028, and will need to campaign to retain his seat in Congress.

“To all of the incredible people sitting here in this great chamber, I am honored, humbled to be sitting before you,” said Senator Burmaster. “I know I must prove myself worthy of sitting in this great chamber, and I know I was not elected to sit here, but for the people of my state of New Shire, I will fight like hell every day to ensure I am working to better your lives, ensure freedom truly remains free. I will continue to fight like Larry Cofelt did while he sat in this chamber. I thank Governor Rivera for the trust he placed in me to sit in the nation’s highest chamber. We have a lot of work to do and I can’t wait to get to know all of you on a personal level.”

Due to the nature and timing of his appointment, he is set to finish out the remainder of former Senator Cofelt’s term, which is not expected to end until 2028. Burmaster says that he will continue to work on fighting the Laylin Administration on it’s immigration policy and LGBTQ policy, while ensuring that essential federal programs are funded and work for the Jesstopian people.

“We are honored to have former House Speaker, now Senator Nolan Burmaster join us in this chamber,” said Senate Minority Leader Vicky White. “He served the House for the last four years and will continue that dedicated service here in the Senate chamber. We look forward to working with him and hope to bring meaningful change while President Laylin and Republicans continue to drag the rights of millions through the mud.”

Sen. Burmaster is not expected to be assigned any committees due to his appointment rather than election but Senate leadership in the Nationalist Party may consider giving him a major Defense or Homeland Security appointment on the Committee due to his intelligence briefings from his time as Speaker.

Official Senate activity has resumed this morning after a short Senate recess after the death of Senator Cofelt. Senate activity will include voting on several budget and spending bills and one will include a bill to resend the bill working to establish 10 more states into the United States Of Jesstopia back to the floor for reconsideration.
