RUFUS – The Late Senator Larry Cofelt has officially been laid to rest late this evening, with family and friends hosting a private burial service. Cofelt died on Monday, and laid in state at the Jesstopian Capitol from July 30 until today.

“It has been a hard time for our family but the well wishes and prayers have sustained us through all of this,” said the family. “We thank everyone who supported us and continues to support us through this time. We know he will be unbelievably proud of the legacy he left behind.”

Cofelt was buried at his family farm in Samson with his family saying that is the place he loved most when not working in his Congressional offices. Larry had long been a strong advocate for farming regulations that prevented the government from capitalizing off the backs of farmers, a move that he and President Laylin often worked together on.

The funeral service was held at 9:00 PM, and concluded around 11:00 PM, before he was buried at his family farm around 11:30 PM. The family said they would be establishing the Larry Cofelt Farmer Grant which will authorize the organization to help save struggling farms and aid farms through difficult times and droughts across the country.

“We will establish this as a way to continue allowing him to posthumously serve farmers that he so loved,” said Greg Cofelt, one of Larry’s brothers. “He loved the farming industry and was proud of the work he did and this is just another way to keep his love of farming alive.”
