RUFUS – Nearly two weeks after being shot in a failed assassination attempt, Governor Joshua Adamson is returning to work with orders from his doctors to only perform light duty work. But the hard working, spirited Governor Adamson is likely to ignore those orders as he seems eager to get back to work.

Governor Adamson has expressed that he is eager to get back to work, but allies have told him to take it easy and be less eager as he recovers. Allies including President Jay Laylin have called on him to return when his “body is ready for the workload.”

“I just would like to take a moment to thank every for their support, starting with my incredible doctors, and the medical team saved my life, and tended to me after my assassination attempt on April 24, to my supporters and all of my allies and those across the political spectrum for your kind words and the condemnation of this violent and evil act. I look forward to work tomorrow and together we will continue to carry on our work,” wrote Governor Adamson in a GovMedia post. “As the famous adage goes “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing” Together we will continue to fight against the evildoers that wish harm to those who disagree with them. Let’s continue to fight for the day that we can agree in disagreement. Thank you all for your prayers, kind words, and well wishes and together we will continue what we started.”

Adamson’s Lieutenant, Gregory Brentwood has been acting Governor since he was shot on April 24, and has issued that he expects Governor Adamson’s and his security to increase by 50% after the shooting. Brentwood issued a statement that he was grateful that “Governor Adamson survived this horrific assassination attempt and is ready to get back to work.”

“I know that Governor Adamson is eager to get back to work, working for all of the great people of Mesa,” said Lt. Governor Brentwood. “I know he is ready to get back to work and is ready to get back to his rallies for the 2026 Mesa Gubernatorial Election. This man doesn’t quit, and I know being down and out for nearly two weeks has been hindering his recovery and I look forward to being able to continue my role as Lt. Governor, working to deliver results for the Mesian people alongside Governor Adamson.”

The Mesa Highway Patrol is expected to increase his security detail from 10 special service division officials to 20, and Lt. Governor Brentwood’s is set to increase from 8 to 16.

“We are not taking any chances when Governor Adamson returns to work and we certainly will not let April 24 to be repeated and will continue to provide outstanding protections for Governor Adamson and Lt. Governor Brentwood,” said Mesa Highway Patrol Commissioner Lewis Donaldson. “This assassination attempt will forever be seared into the history books of our great state and we must ensure history doesn’t repeat itself going forward.”

Adamson will sign his first executive orders since returning to work and will hold his first press conference later next week. The Governor’s office did not comment what the executive orders would be, but provided that “Adamson is eager to get them signed,” and say the orders will “be a benefit to all Mesians.”
