RUFUS – Mesa Lieutenant Governor will serve as acting Governor of Mesa until Governor Joshua Adamson who was shot early this morning, recovers and is cleared to return to his duties. Brentwood will have limited authority as acting Governor including being able to sign minor bills, including appropriations bills and other budget-related bills.

Lt. Governor Brentwood will serve until further notice as acting Governor, with several meetings scheduled between the cabinet and him. With Governor Adamson’s condition not being released as the investigation continues, it is unclear how long Brentwood would serve as Acting Governor.

“The shooting of our Governor, Joshua Adamson earlier today, we will work to steam ahead with the agenda that Governor Adamson laid out when he first became governor in 2023,” said Lt. Governor Gregory Brentwood. “We will continue to deliver for the Mesian people and Governor Adamson will be back to continue leading this incredible state as soon as he can. We will work to ensure that continuity of Government and will work to deliver on our conservative policies in the great state of Mesa.”

Investigations into the assassination attempt early this morning are currently ongoing with Mesa Highway Patrol, Alden Police Department and Federal Crimes Investigation Service officials remaining heavily in the state and Alden County areas. The Alden County Sheriff’s Office said it would help “were needed in the investigation,” citing that “it is in the Jurisdiction of the Alden Police Department that the shooting took place.”

“Lt. Governor Gregory Brentwood has been put in an almost difficult position, managing state affairs while navigating the assassination attempt of his boss, who has widely taken the front seat of the public’s attention,” said Craig Cost, associate professor of Political and Scientific research. “Much of Brentwood’s career has always been at the back of the room, so his ascension to serve as acting Governor will properly gear him up for allowing the public to see what he is made of. I think he will have a little bit of time to prove himself to be a capable leader.”

Mesa House Of The People Speaker James Ramirez(R-Century) said that he has the full backing and support of the House of the People. He alluded to the difficult spot he was placed in and said that “every effort” will be made to get bills passed that would have been signed by Governor Adamson.

The Mesa House and Senate are scheduled to hold a prayer for Governor Adamson as he continues to fight for his life at Alden County Medical Center, where his condition still remains unknown. Brentwood said that the shooting will continue to be investigated.
