RUFUS – Senator Thomas Cooke filed articles of impeachment against President Jay Laylin for his involvement for trying to block State officials from blocking illegal immigration operations within their state borders. The Senate voted on the impeachment following the Senate Impeachment Committees passage of the Impeachment Resolution.

The Senate which controlled by the Republicans, blocked the impeachment attempt in a 48 – 32 vote with 6 Nationalists voting against the impeachment. In a statement Republicans say that the impeachment effort was “merely a show to gain political points,” citing the “Nationalists relentless and never-ending hate for the President,” and “a way to get back at the President because they lost control of the Nationalist House.”

House Minority Leader Vicky White was one of the people that voted against the impeachment. She says that just impeaching anyone for any little thing will make the power of impeachment weaker and eventually it will become obsolete with continued unnecessary use.

“I believe that continually using the impeachment proceedings and process will weaken the authority that the power of impeachment has,” said Senate Minority Leader Vicky White. “We must use our impeachment process for Abuses of Power and High Crimes and misdemeanors. The President’s attempt to block states from blocking immigration enforcement is not impeachable as much as I hate to admit it.”

Republicans voted in step with all 42 Republicans voting, expectedly, against the impeachment. Senate Majority Leader Harry Rodham said that the 6 Senators who voted alongside Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader White, are “commendable.”

While the Senate voted against impeaching President Laylin, he still faces a House impeachment proceeding for the August 24 bombing of Iran that has killed dozens of innocent Iranians. Secretary Of State Bradley Vance as well as Secretary Of Defense Corbyn Willard are also facing the same.

“I am disappointed that this President continues to violate the law and yet we just sit by and wait for him to continue to break the law,” said Senator Thomas Cooke. “He is getting blanket protections to commit crimes against State rights. He continues to strip rights away from everyday Jesstopians and yet we sit here and do nothing. He violated the constitution by placing blocks on States attempting to protect immigrants from illegal immigration enforcement operations. I am disappointed in the 10 Nationalists that joined Republicans.”

The Senate says that there was no evidence that any “crimes or abuse of power took place when President Laylin sought to block State’s from blocking immigration operations,” and said that “federal immigration law supersede a state’s personal feeling about immigration efforts.”
