RUFUS – Republican Gregory Hook has announced that he was retiring at the end of his current term after more than 3 decades in Congress. He said that it was time to retire and enjoy post-retirement life. He says that he will campaign for Republicans to ensure he seat remains in Republican control.

Hook was first elected to Congress in 1995, defeating John Smart who had served for 40 years as North Lorray’s 1st Congressional District. During his tenure he has reached across the aisle and worked closely with Nationalists on issues that were important to them and him. He is known for his close relationship with politicians of varying background.

“It has been the greatest honor to be able to serve in the halls of this great institution for the last 31 years,” said Representative Greg Hook. “Now is the best time to step away from this great House, and in 2028, I will not be seeking reelection come 2028. I’ve enjoyed my time in Congress and we’ve been able to accomplish a lot of good.”

Rep. Hook is the second Representative to announce retirement in 2028, behind Rep. Jane Stempkowski who announced her retirement in May. Hook said that he wants to spend more time with family and go boating after leaving Congress. Hook’s retirement received mixed reactions with some praising his retirement and others saddened by the news.

“He’s all we’ve known since he took over as our Representative back in 1995 and it is going to be weird not seeing him serve us as our Rep,” said a voter from Lowesville, North Lorray. “He has been the champion for Lowesville and he will be missed. It’s nice to know we have two more years with him. He’s deserved his retirement.”

Congressional Republicans now have yet another seat to defend come 2028, and they say it is going to be challenging as they seek to retain control of House. Other Representatives have expressed the potential for retirements but did not officially confirm if they would.

The Senate has not seen any Senators announce retirements as of now, but House leadership say that right now they are focusing on legislating and are not concerned about 2028 as of now.
