RUFUS – Governor Joey Rigg has shut down the capital city, Nox County and South Kingston County ahead of Hurricane Lola as part of the state’s 4-step emergency plans. State offices, services, schools, and other non-essential businesses and organizations are also closed starting Thursday.
“It is about protecting people’s lives,” said Governor Joey Rigg. “Our State employees are human beings and should not have to work in the dangerous conditions that Hurricane Lola will be bring to our state and this city. I won’t be in the city when the storm hits and I don’t expect them to be.”
Governor Rigg issued an evacuation order for the entirety of Nox County, which encompasses Nox City. The Governor said that evacuations are not optional and people will die if they don’t follow them.
“Schools will also be closed as no residents should be out in the streets when Hurricane Lola arrives,” continued Governor Rigg. “We are working with all city-wide district schools to communicate with parents about emergency plans if they are unable to leave the city for any reason. We are directing the state education department to close any schools, colleges, universities or private schools. These closures will last until June 5 and may be extended as necessary.”
The Federal Government has also confirmed that North Lorray Congressional offices and other federal services there will also be closed including post offices, immigration centers and embassies. All agencies will reopen on June 6.
“We are praying for North Lorray and for Governor Rigg’s state,” said President Jay Laylin. “I will send whatever resources he needs following the hurricane. I pray that all individuals within the city are able to leave or find a suitable shelter where they can stay during the hurricane.”
Lt. Governor Brentwood and Governor Rigg will take up temporary headquarters in Paxton, North Lorray until the storm is over and damage is assessed. State officials are being told to evacuate with a majority of the State legislature already have left.
