RUFUS – Mesa Governor Joshua Adamson has formally returned to work after being out of work for the last 12 days as he was recovering from gunshot wounds he received last month in a failed assassination attempt. Lt. Governor Brentwood returns to his duties as Lt. Governor.
The Governor’s office confirmed that his security was beefed up as scheduled with Lt. Governor Gregory Brentwood’s security also being increased as well. Governor Adamson and Gregory Brentwood are still running for reelection during this year’s gubernatorial elections, and the assassination attempt has resulted in a sharp increase in support for Governor Adamson’s reelection bid.
“I am thankful to be alive today and with the support and prayers of my family, supporters and friends, as well as my incredible doctors I am here to continue the work we’ve started together,” said Governor Adamson following his return to the Governor’s mansion early this morning. “This political world is a dangerous one, but I would have it no other way and if this line of work kills me, so be it. My life has been built for public service, and I will die in the service of others. I look forward to getting back to work and I thanks Lt. Governor Gregory Brentwood for his hard work and filling in for me while I was gone.”
Adamson is scheduled to meet with House and Senate leaders to discuss in plans to fund programs aimed at targeting gang violence following the Liberty gang takeover in July. He says that he wants to get leaders on board so that it can easily pass the legislature and Governor Adamson can quickly enact it into law.
“Now that I am back, I have many scheduled events coming up and I look forward to fulfilling them. These include several meetings with State leaders where I am looking to propose several bills to the legislature,” continued Governor Adamson. “The other event is the 2026 State of the State address. This address will allow me to outline the progress our state has made in the last year on social programs, the economy and the cost of living in Mesa.”
Lt. Governor Gregory Brentwood has returned to his duties as Lt. Governor after acting as Governor. In a statement he made late last night he said that he “looks forward to Governor Adamson’s return.” He said that he was ready to get back to work on his Lt. Governor duties.
“I am pleased that Governor Adamson is back and alive,” said Lt. Governor Brentwood. “God was watching over Governor Adamson and for that we should all rejoice. I thank him for his continued leadership and look forward to the upcoming work we will need to do to retain our respective offices.”
Both men have officially returned to their duties and will continue to carry out the duties they were elected to perform as the 2026 Gubernatorial election quickly approaches.
