ASPEN – President Jay Laylin has confirmed that he has no intentions on resigning the Presidency, even with mounting Nationalist pressure to do so. The President also said he was committed to fighting these false allegations, and would work to ensure the continued success of his administration amid the criminal case.
The victim who’s only identifying information is that she was a former staffer to then-Senator Jay Laylin in 2015, said that Laylin drugged, raped and then beat by the President. But as the investigation continues, President Laylin seems to be digging his heels into the ground as he says he will not resign amid growing calls from Nationalists in Congress and around the United States Of Jesstopia.
Even as President Laylin continues receiving calls to resign, Republicans continue to clamp tighter, closing the President’s circle and working to ensure that the continuity of Government happens as he works to clear his name. Republicans seem to be “victim blaming,” calling the allegations ‘false, disgusting and vile.”
“I have always been a president of transparency and have always worked in the Senate to ensure the protection of women from sexual abusers, and that has never stopped,” said President Laylin in his first statement about the matter. “I will never stop fighting for women, and I have no intentions of resigning as I know I will fight these horrific allegations levied against me. I plan on continuing my duties as President. I will not make any further comments about the case at this time.”
Lawyers for President Laylin plan on attacking the victim’s allegations, as prosecutors look for any evidence that could link Jay Laylin to his 2015 crimes. President Laylin is also protected under immunity of the Presidency for any actions he makes as President. It does not protect him from the alleged rape that took place when he was a Senator.
“The President is not protected from criminal prosecution because the alleged crime was committed while he served in the Senate,” said John Murstener, a legal expert on Presidential immunity. “If President Laylin had committed the crimes, let’s say last year, he would have been protected from criminal conviction until he departs the Presidency. But because the crime allegedly took place while he served in the Jesstopian Senate, that protection does not apply. He can still be convicted, but if he is, he will never face a jail cell due to his stature as President.”
If president is convicted of rape, he could face impeachment, which is highly likely to be initiated by Nationalist Representatives. He could also face felony convictions and would be permanently barred from holding elected office again. But experts say that any formal impeachment will take place as Republicans control both chambers of Congress.
“The President is determined to defeat these false allegations against him and we look forward to supporting him through it,” said Nationalist House Press Secretary Nancy Yates. “This is a very serious allegation, and the President continues to defend his innocence.”
