RUFUS – New Shire Governor David Rivera successfully defeated Republican challenger Lorenzo Marley during the 2026 New Shire Gubernatorial Election. Marley received 8 vote bank points less that Rivera, who received 273. Marley conceded the election following the Federal Elections Board certification of results.

Voters across the state have given him the mandate to lead New Shire until 2030, and to ensure that New Shirens’ rights are protected from what they call “overreach of President Jay Laylin and his Republican allies.” Across the state early this morning celebrations to the news of his victory have popped up along major liberal cities across the state.

“It is a great day for New Shire,” said a Rufus resident who supported Governor Rivera’s campaign to be elected to a full term. “He has done such a great job ensuring our rights are trampled, providing great programs, and ensuring that jobs remain here in the state. I am so proud that he was elected to the State’s first four-year term and I can’t wait to see the work he does to stop the bigoted administration of Jay Laylin.”

Rivera received 273 vote bank points, three over the required number to be elected, just a slim margin of victory over Lorenzo who was just 8 vote bank points shy of winning office. Lorenzo has reportedly called Governor Rivera to congratulate him on his victory. He also gave a concession speech to disappointed supporters.

“We did something incredible, something younger me would never have dreamed of,” said Lorenzo Marley. “We were able to be nominated as the Republican candidate for Governor, making it all the way to the ballot box. That is something I will never believe. While today’s loss is disappointing, we look forward to more opportunities ahead and I will never stop fighting for the great people of our state. We will never turn our heads to the corruption of state leaders, and we will never stop working hard for you, the New Shiren people.”

Governor Rivera also issued the following statement following his victory of Lorenzo Marley during a post-election party.

“Lorenzo Marley served honorably the great people of this state as commissioner of the New Shire State police,” said Governor Rivera. “For that we thank him. Mr. Marley was an extraordinary opponent and my hope for him is that he has a successful and long political career ahead of him, and I thank him for his generous and most gracious congratulations. As Governor, it is my hope that we can all come together, Nationalists and Republicans, and work for the common good of our state, as Lorenzo Marley did as Commissioner of the New Shire State Police.”

Governor Rivera will be sworn into the state’s first four year term, and his first full term as Governor on May 10, and will be sworn in by New Shire Supreme Court associate Justice Marcus Wayneman. He will take his oath of office at 9:00 AM. Rivera says he is focusing on getting more work done as he awaits the start of his first full term.

“It’s a horrible day for New Shire, as he will continue to push his anti-immigration policy, pull funding for law enforcement efforts on immigration and shift the state’s law enforcement organizations away from supporting immigration enforcement as promised during his campaign. We will see women be subjected to “trans women” in female restrooms, which should scare the hell out of everyone. New Shire voters failed to see the dangers to electing such a liberal governor for the next four years.”

Other supporters of Lorenzo Marley are calling for a recount of votes, but Lorenzo Marley confirmed that he would accept the results of the election. He is the second Republican gubernatorial candidate in the last 10 years to refuse a recount even as calls for it to take place grow.
