RUFUS – Vice President Cole Bindle was traveling down National Road when a driver, who police and Presidential Protective Service agents say did not appear to act maliciously, crashed into the vehicle he was traveling in. New Shire State Troopers and Rufus Police are investigating.
“We don’t believe the driver was acting maliciously when the crash took place,” said Presidential Protection Service spokesperson David Ramirez. “We do believe that the driver of the orange vehicle suffered a medical emergency and agents rendered aid to the drive until Emergency services arrived on scene and took the drive to the hospital. Agents will question the driver when he is cleared to speak with our agents.”
Rufus Police say that they received the call about the crash shortly after 3:45 AM, and responded to the scene where officers and agents of the PPS are still working the crash investigation. They also say that Vice President Bindle was not harmed in the crash and was transferred to another vehicle and arrived safely at the Nationalist House just 6 minutes later.
Police are saying the intersections of National Road and Jesstopia Street as well as Parker Street and National Road will be blocked for the next several hours as evidence is collected. Officials are advising drivers to avoid these sections of road.
“We expect major delays on National Road near the Intersection of National Road and Jesstopia Street. Parker Street will reopen in about an hour as crews are currently working to move the vehicles out of the way,” said New Shire State Police Commissioner Lee Adams. “We will continue to provide traffic updates as they become available to us.”
President Laylin also sent his prayers to the driver who suffered the medical emergency and issued he was ‘very happy’ that Vice President Bindle was safe on his personal X account.
“I heard about the accident that took place this morning and I am very happy to hear that Vice President Bindle is safe,” wrote the President in his tweet. “I send my prayers to the driver of the vehicle that crashed into the Vice President’s car early this morning. Praying the driver makes a quick and speedy recovery.”
