RUFUS – Congress is now officially on recess until the start of the 85th Congress on January 1, 2026. House Speaker Gregory Harks closed out the Congress and expressed optimism for the next Congress and the work they will be able to get accomplished.
Both the House and Senate gathered for a joint closing of the 84th Congress. During the final meeting of the 84th Congress, Speaker Harks reflected on the last year of legislative activity and expressed his gratitude for the work of all Representatives and Senators over the past year. He said that there is work still to be done and looks forward to working with his fellow Representatives, Senators, and the President.
“This past year was filled with great legislative accomplishments for the Jesstopian people, and the preservation of traditional family values,” said Speaker Harks. “We still have a lot of work to do to get President Laylin’s agenda accomplished and I know that together, we can get the job done. We have another full year ahead of us to legislate. I now adjourn Congress, to reconvene on January 1, 2026.”
The House and Senate are now in recess, and that means no new laws will be signed into law, legislative activity will completely halt until January 1. With Congress in recess, President Laylin can make decisions without the approval of Congress. President Laylin has not signaled if he would push through recess appointments, which is a federal power that has never been used by a Jesstopian President.
When Congress resumes, they have a lineup of votes that will need to take place as soon as Congress resumes including an Appropriations bill to fund the government through until 2027. House Republicans are likely to review the bill before sending it to Senate and have confirmed that they are looking to ensure that there are funding measures to ensure that deportation efforts are funded during for the next year.
