RUFUS – Former President John McCallum announced that he is not seeking another term in 2028, after a year of speculation that he would secretly be mounting a campaign to return to the Nationalist House. But the former President has already said he would not be seeking another term in 2028.

John McCallum served as the 2nd President of the United States Of Jesstopia from November 28, 2020 until November 16, 2024, announcing he would not seek an elected term in 2024. He served unelected for nearly four years following the death of Joe Diester on November 28, 2020, from complications of COVID. He became Jesstopia’s first and only unelected President due to the Presidential line of succession.

McCallum had already made up his mind back in 2021, mere months after assuming office following former President Diester’s death. He mentioned in an interview last month that the President should serve as long as he is willing to do the job and said that ‘right now he was not ready for another term.’

“I was honored to serve as our country’s second president, and right now my life is simpler,” said former President John McCallum. “While I have often considered a second term, and have thought countless times about serving another term, I don’t think right now I am ready for another term.”

While in office during his final six months prior to the 2024 Presidential Election, polls at several sources confirmed that he could have easily defeated Jay Laylin, had he decided to run against him. But as he says, his time was over at the Nationalist House and felt as it was time to move on.

“I think former President McCallum could easily win the nomination and defeat any Republican challenger in 2028,” said Representative Nolan Burmaster. “He was popular throughout his presidency and that popularity increased after leaving office. I hope he runs in the future because his work for ALL Jesstopians was evident everyday he worked, he never stopped fighting for everyday Jesstopians.”

Nationalist Governor David Rivera said that he encouraged the former President to seek another term, but said McCallum was resolved to only serving one term, at least for now. Rivera said that McCallum should run for another term.
