RUFUS – President Jay Laylin has announced his nomination for DHS Secretary, following the October 17 assassination of DHS Secretary Marcus Welder. The President announced DHS’s Head of Terrorism Prevention Jerry Meckler to the role following extensive and thorough vetting of candidates.
The president praised his work with DHS to protect the United States Of Jesstopia and its citizens. The President posted the following statement on the Nationalist House following his decision. He urged the Senate to quickly confirm his nomination.
“Today I announce that I have nominated the DHS’ Head Of Terrorism Prevention to lead the agency after extensive talks with members of the Department Of Homeland Security including interim DHS Secretary Patrick Wheat, who has personally worked with Meckler,” wrote President Laylin. “Meckler joined the Department of Homeland Security in 1988, working to address potential terroristic threats against the United States Of Jesstopia, played a key role in identifying major terrorist organizations following the September 11 attacks in the US. His dedication to public service and his service to our country, unequivocally qualifies him to run the department as its Secretary. I urge the Senate to promptly confirm his nomination.”
Meckler quickly accepted the nomination and will face a long confirmation process, likely not to take place until after November 10, when Republicans take control of the Senate next month. Interim DHS Secretary Patrick Wheat says that he was “confident in Meckler to lead the DHS as its Secretary.”
“I am beyond pleased that President Laylin selected Jerry to serve as the next DHS Secretary,” said interim DHS Secretary Patrick Wheat. “Meckler has proven himself valuable to not only our agency, but to our nation as a whole. I am confident in Meckler to lead the DHS as its Secretary. I look forward to working with him in the coming years.”
The Senate has said whether they would push through efforts for the confirmation process and did not answer as to whether they would even support his nomination as Nationalists are set to take the minority next month.
