RUFUS – Former Department Of Homeland Security Secretary Marcus Welder was laid to rest in Fairfield, New Shire, on his family plot. Former DHS Secretary Welder was assassinated on October 17, 2025, by 22 year old transgender Ashley Portley.
Welder was speaking to the press when he was shot and later died from the gunshot wounds he sustained to the head and chest. He lived for about 5 hours after the shooting before succumbing to his wounds.
His family announced that a private funeral would be held for Welder, which has since taken place. The family did not wish to have a laying in honor at the Jesstopian capitol and requested privacy as the family mourned and buried him at their family plot in Fairfield.
The family says they are still demanding answers for how a crazed gunman as able to attack Welder and are demanding ways to prevent something like this from happening again.
“We will miss him every day, but we hope something can be learned from this so it doesn’t happen to someone else down the road,” said his widow Katrina Welder. “This should never have happened and I am demanding answers as to how a shooter was able to get so close to her husband and kill him without being detected by his security detail.”
He was provided full military honors for his service in the Jesstopian Army as a reservist. He also received a Presidential Medal Of Great posthumously during the funeral service and burial by President Laylin who was personally invited by the Welder family. Katrina received the award on behalf of Welder, and President Laylin and her embraced in a long hug.
“He deserves this award, and I am thankful to President Laylin for honor his life, one that was cut too short. Thank you Mr. President for your friendship and support during these times.” – Katrina posted to her private X account after the funeral service.
